If your second screen isn’t working quite right — or at all — don’t panic. Most issues with monitors, projectors, or docking station displays are simple to resolve with a few quick checks.
First Steps
-
Is the display turned on?
Make sure it has power and is set to the right input (e.g., HDMI, DisplayPort). -
Check the cables.
Try unplugging and reconnecting both ends — laptop and monitor. -
Use the correct display mode:
PressWindows Key + Pand select one:-
Duplicate – Same content on both screens
-
Extend – More screen space
-
Second screen only – Use only the external display
-
Common Fixes

-
Try plugging the display directly into the laptop to isolate the issue.
-
-
Nothing happens when plugged in?
-

Frequent flickering or display dropouts?
Replace the cable — it’s often the culprit.
